The Hateful Eight Review

The Hateful Eight is the eighth movie by Quentin Tarantino finally released in India, three weeks later than the US release. I had heard of mixed reviews for the movie but still went to watch it because of Quentin Tarantino.  And what do I say? The movie does not disappoint.

The film is set a few years after the American Civil War and includes characters like bounty hunters, criminals, war veterans and the like. The movie is a western which has been written and directed in true Tarantino style with various chapters taking the story forward. The movie's core are its dialogues which set the movie apart from other movies released recently. The movie has a good pace with some twists and yes, it includes a lot of bloodshed. The pacy narrative and good dialogues make for a good movie watching experience. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat, when the plot starts to unfold.

The actors have done a fine job with the main attractions being Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russel, Walter Goggins and Jennifer Jason Leigh. They have provided powerful performances and their characters remain with you even after the movie. The other actors have also enacted their roles to perfection, which is the hallmark of this movie.

Coming to direction. This movie once again proves why Quentin Tarantino is such a good director, with his well directed scenes forming the basis of a good movie. Quentin Tarantino is a master storyteller and he once again proves it in his style. The movie has just 2 settings - one the horse carriage and another a house in the hills. Even with only 2 locations, Tarantino makes the movie a compelling watch.

Overall the movie is great and I you want to watch a crime western movie in the style of Tarantino, then go for it.

Wazir Review

Wazir is one of the shortest duration bollywood movies to have been released in the recent times at 103 minutes. 

The movie is about an ATS officer and a chess master and has its share of twists. The story and screenplay are well written which keep the events going at a good pace through the movie. The story by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and the screenplay co-written by Abhijat Joshi, is brisk in pace. Though the twists provided in the movie were easy to figure out by the mid of the movie, but it did not dampen interest for the movie. The movie keeps you glued with one trying to figure out what is going to happen next. There are hardly any songs in the movie, which is a good thing as the movie has a serious mood. The few songs that play at the background help provide the movie it's mood.

Farhan Akhtar as the ATS officer and Amitabh Bachchan as the chess master play their characters very well. The other actors like John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and others have a small role in the movie. Even in their small roles they have lent credibility to the movie. If the roles of John and Neil could have been lengthened, the movie would have had a larger audience. Even with just 2 main characters the movie is nothing short of interesting, which is a great testament to the story writing prowess of Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Bejoy Nambiar as the director has done a good job at directing the movie. The movie is crisp and well edited which make the audience glued to their seats. The dialogues are well written, but they have been delivered even better by the actors, which makes the dialogues a high point of the movie.

Overall the movie is a good watch because of the actors. One can certainly go and watch this movie once, but it does not call for a second watch since the mysteries are already unravelled.
